A lot of collectors continue to suffer from fake coins producers. There were a lot of reports stating that replica coins really upset enthusiasts passionate about numismatics.
The coin that included an old look and a lure of value turned out to be another fake, which has no value and thus has be considered junk.
News Post Leader some time ago reported about a treasure-hunter, who was glad to discover a coin the age of which was presumably 500 years. The "old gold coin" was found in Choppington, a village in England and its value was expected to reach thousands of pounds.
The news stating that 500-years old gold coin was found excited both historians and archaeologists around the region.
The treasure hunter hoped to sell the coin when he suddenly felt unlucky when experts analyzed his founding and reported that the old gold coin was in fact a replica. Someone covered the coin in gold resin on the outside, thus to give the coin a look of an old gold coin.
The experts also mentioned that the coin did not have a sufficient weight as a gold coin.
Rob Collins, finds liaison officer at Newcastle University's Museum of Antiquities, analyzed the coin and said that he almost instantly spotted the fake.
"There was a plastic gold resin to give it that gold look. Also on the coin was a small
WRL marking which is a very common mark for a replica" he mentioned.
The story, however, does not end here because the coin was announced to be a fake after a certain period of time. Before the expert stated his verdict several frantic treasure-hunters started erupting across the whole local farming land.
